Christmas of last year made my realize two things: first, that I should think ahead of what Christmas gifts to give my friends and family, and second, I can’t handle pressure if pressed for time, so I really have to remember the first one.

How was I able to realize these things? A couple of days before Christmas last year, I decided on giving custom promotional gifts to my family and friends. Because of my lax attitude, I was able to go out and buy stuff only on Christmas Eve, which was quite a learning experience for me.

The first store that I went to which specializes in apparel custom promotional gifts was an exercise in futility. I wanted to make something special, so I went there. The line was I think a kilometer long already. When I asked the cashier if I’d be able to get something made before Christmas, she said that my order might be finished in five days. That was a shocker, so I decided not to buy it.

Another is when I went to a car shop to buy some auto accessories custom promotional gifts for my grease monkey brothers. I thought that I might be able to get a lot of stuff because promotional auto accessories are not that in demand. But I was wrong. The shop owner told me that they ran out of stock. Teary-eyed, I went home with empty hands and a bruised ego.

I think that was the first Christmas that I gave out chocolates as gifts. It sucks. The shame still haunts me up to now.
